Easy 5 to qualify the boy for the Yeti, and what do you know, he made it up the hill! And he still wants to run the actual race. He was slow, but he'll still beat some people.

Who is the boy and what is the Yeti?

I'm lost!

Well, now, getting lost is an integral part of the Yeti :) You can see some cool photos here:

The Yeti is usually my kickoff race for the year. You start at 4800 feet and run a 5k, finishing up at about 6000 feet. Then you strap on snowshoes and run up another 1200 or so vertical feet to the top of a small overlook, then back down to the 5k finish. It's great fun, and the nastiest hill workout ever. Too bad you're not here or I could drag you into it...

The boy is my son Isaac, 13, who has taken to wearing leg weights during PE just to see how strong he can make his legs. Apparently strong enough to run up the hill.

Haha. Brilliant. I'd be ok running uphill but all that snow shoe stuff would do me in: I don't even know what snow shoes look like, never mind run in/skate in/ski in them. Sounds like a tough and fun race.

Is Isaac a fast starter too? Mind you, with all that climbing, anybody starting fast is aslking for serious trouble.

Yes, he has the same problem, but without the reserve to back it up. We won't bother to fix the problem, we'll just get him the reserve. We like our problems.
